Acoma Pueblo
Considered to be one of longest inhabited places in North America. The village itself lies atop a sheer sided mesa several hundred feet above the valley floor. See if you can find San Esteban del Rey Church.
Years ago we drove to the Pueblo but today we pick up a tour guide and ride five minutes to the top. Acoma guides discuss the early history, the Spanish occupation and the history of the church which is still active today. Potters may have some ware displayed for sale.
The old Pueblo is closed for ceremonial use several days a year so we need a few minutes to check with the visitor center.
Allow 6-8 hours from Albuquerque. Walking on dirt paths. Great gift shop visitor center and restaurant.
There is an admission at the Pueblo $20.00 adult.
